Hotel is a hotel selected by the client for accommodation. The hotel type shall be established by the local certification bodies and shown in the booklet/catalogue/website and the hotel front plate. In some countries, the hotel types are divided not upon number of stars, but according to the local categorical characteristics. Subjective estimate of the hotel types shall not be taken into account.
Single/SGL (one room) is an accommodation type, when one person lives in one hotel room.
Dbl (double room) is an accommodation type, when two persons live in one hotel room.
Junior suite is a hotel room with a seating area.
Extra bed (exbed) — an extra bed is installed in the same room additionally for accommodation of the third (fourth) person.
Triple is an accommodation type, when three persons live in one hotel room.
Standard room is a standard hotel room, which consists of one bedroom and a combined bathroom.
Suite is a room, which consists of several rooms.
Villa, bungalow, chalet are types of cottages.
Patio is an internal yard in the Spanish-Moorish architecture.
Sea view (it often cannot be translated) — sea view.
Twin bed — two identical beds, usually in standard or family room types. They can be joined or separated by a bedside table.
French bed is double bed («French»).
King-size bed is a bed for three persons.
Butler is a steward (at the hotels and rooms of VIP type).
Room service (it often cannot be translated) is delivery to the room. As a rule, it shall be performed for extra payment.
Turn down service is making beds (additional service in VIP rooms).
Baby cot (it often cannot be translated) is an extra cot in the room.
Type of meals, bars, restaurants:
RO/AOEP — no meals.
ВВ — only breakfast.
НВ — breakfast and dinner.
FB — breakfast, lunch, dinner. All drinks ordered by the client during lunch and dinner shall be extra paid on site.
AI — All inclusive — breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages and spirits produced on this territory.
UAI — Ultra all inclusive — breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages and spirits produced on this territory and perhaps imported, as well as some additional services and privileges.
A la carte (Fr.) — a restaurant, which provides a selection of meals from the menu and payment according to the bill (on the contrary to buffet, stand-up meal or set-menu).
Buffet — buffet style — a kind of meal when various cold and hot dishes, salads, desserts, fruit etc. are freely available. Visitors choose their meals themselves to their taste.
Animation is entertainments at the hotels held by professional animators. Usually, here belong playing games outdoors, sport events, competitions, dance lessons etc. Animation can be carried out in the afternoon and in the evening, for adults and children. Animation is conducted in several languages, and in big hotels there is animation in Russian.
Dress code is stringent demands to the visitors’ clothes. The visitors are forbidden to wear swimming suits at the restaurants and bars in Turkey, Egypt and Spain. Sometimes men are demanded to wear trousers instead of shorts. In some a la carte restaurants, a suit or a dress is a demand (instead of jeans and a t-shirt). When banquets are organized, in particular, New Year party, the hotel management shall give instructions as for the dress code (for example, “party in white”, a fancy dress etc.).
Transfer: TRF — a service in transportation the tourist from his arrival place to the country (place of temporary residence) till the time of his accommodation. There are group transfers — a bus with a capacity from 40 to 45 persons meets a group of visitors. If it is an individual transfer — a mini-bus, which can carry up to 13 persons is given. VIP-transfer — means a car, where not more than 4 persons may be carried.
Arrival and departure — a meeting in the ordered place with an information plate and escort from the place of the meeting to the appropriate transfer vehicle ordered.
Guide is an employer, who provides the escort of the client on the site ordered with such a purpose; it also may be a person, who carries out an excursion.
Excursion is attending an excursion selected by the client. The excursion program is made by the hosting party and includes the show points, which can be seen by the client.
An excursion with a Russian-speaking guide — an excursion, which is held in Russian.
Check-in — moving into the hotel.
Check-out — moving out of the hotel, checkout time. It is always 12 noon at all hotels. By this time you shall leave the room and pay for additional services. All-inclusive program also terminates at 12 noon. The extension of stay at the hotel may be provided for extra pay.
Reception is a reception desk at the hotel. Beside the registration of moving in and moving out, at the reception you may order the excursion, make the restaurant reservation, ask for spa-center services and a baby-sitter, and use a safe deposit box etc.
Hosting party is an organization or an individual entrepreneur, who hosts tourists, who came to their temporary country (place) of residence, acting on the grounds of agreements with the Company.
Voucher is a document, which establishes the right of a tourist for the services included in the tour and confirms rendering such services. The voucher may include hotel and transfer services.
Tour is a package of services related to accommodation, transportation, meals selected and paid by the client, mentioned in the tourist trip and the voucher.
Start of the tour — upon the ordered transfer — since the beginning of the transfer, upon the non-ordered transfer — since the accommodating at the hotel booked.
Finish of the tour — upon the ordered transfer — since the finishing of the transfer, upon the non-ordered transfer — since the scheduled time of check-out.
Tour operator is an organization or an individual entrepreneur, who carries out its activities related to execution, promotion and implementation of the tour based on the license and a bank guarantee.
Tour agent is an organization or an individual entrepreneur, who carries out its activities related to promotion and implementation of the tour.
Tourist (Client) is a citizen, who visits the country (place) of temporary residence, with recreational, educational, professional and business, sports, religious and other purposes, without involvement in the paid activities during the period from 24 (twenty-four) hours to 6 (six) months or who spent at least one night at the hotel when acquired the tourist product from the Company.
Hotel on the first line is a hotel with the beach directly on the territory of the hotel. The second line — means passing across the road/promenade/territory of another hotel to get to the beach. It is an urgent issue when buying a tourist trip to Egypt.
Date of departure — a date of entry into the hotel. According to the hotel rules, the client shall pay for the nights, but not the days, spent by the tourist at the hotel. For example, if 7 nights are mentioned, it means the tourist will spend 7 nights at the hotel. The date of arrival/departure shall not be taken into account and paid. Some Russian hotels and resorts are exceptions.
Late departure — as a rule, the visitors shall leave their rooms on the date of departure till 12 noon. However, what shall you do if you have your airplane at midnight? The hotel offers to leave your baggage at the storage room and to walk somewhere, or you may pay for late departure — as a rule, a half of the daily room rate.
What «TAX FREE» means
You may use «tax free» system («without tax») and get back a part of your money spent. It is related with the fact that any government is interested in promotion of its goods export abroad – it means that the internal demand is not reduced, but the turnover increases. VAT (VAT/GST) tax return for goods purchased by the citizen of the European Union, which are exported from the country, may be done if the tourist complies with the following criteria:
he/she is not a resident of the country of temporary residence;
he/she spent some money in one outlet, which shall be not less than the minimum sum established by the government (see the table);
he/she exports the goods not later than within 1-3 months since the purchase was made;
he/she properly executed all papers while making the purchase;
he/she can show the goods purchased at the customs office while leaving the country of temporary residence and prove that he/she didn’t begin to use it at the time of his staying abroad (labels and price marks shall be kept).
How to make purchases under TAX FREE system
Choose a shop with a plate on the door or placed directly in the shop saying: «TAX FREE for tourists» or «TAX FREE shopping». Then you choose goods and its price shall exceed the established minimum, which shall be specified by the shop-assistant (it differs in each country).
We pay your attention that books, food stuffs, tobacco products and any services rendered are not subject to refund under the tax free system. When you pay for your purchase you shall show your travel passport and ask the shop-assistant to give you a special cheque – «tax-free cheque» (TFC), in addition to the main one, which shall fix a list of goods, a price for each item, a tax amount, excluding fees per each item, shop-assistant’s and purchaser’s names.
You will be asked what kind of refund you prefer – by cash at the airport or to your bank card. When you have made your choice you cannot change the way of refunding.
Getting money under TAX FREE system
Refund is made after the customs control merely at all international airports of the countries-participants of the tax-free system. If you have any doubts whether you may get refund at your airport, you shall consult www.globalrefund.com to know it for sure. At the customs office or the border checkpoint you shall stamp your taxfree cheques at the particular TAX-FREE desk. With this purpose you shall show your boarding card, a travel passport, purchases unpacked, cheques and a Tax-FreeCheque. You shall have at least 30 minutes to get the customs stamp and taxfree refund, when preparing your documents at the airport.
Your stamped cheque may be sent by post and then you will get the transfer. As a rule, when preparing a Tax-FreeCheque, an envelope with the stated address is given. You shall put a Tax-Free receipt with a cheque certified by the customs officer into the envelope and put it into any mailbox at the border crossing. Postage stamps are not a demand, but the letter shall be sent at the airport before the departure. When getting your documents, a bank cheque will be sent for you. When you pay for your purchases with a credit card, the taxfree refund will be performed by the bank transfer to your credit card. You shall put your stamped cheque into the envelope and put it into the mailbox. The money will be credited to your account within 1-6 months.
If you chose the cash refund, you shall know the location of the respective office at the airport. It may be found either before or after the passport control. You may recognize it by such tables as «Cash refund», «VAT/Detax» or «VAT refund», depending upon the country. In some countries, you may get your refund at the particular desk of the Duty Free shop.
In Russia, you may get your cash at TaxFreecashRefund outlets. You may see the list of outlets and authorized banks on www.globalrefund.com. Your cheque may be cashed only if it has the customs mark. The time between making the purchase and exporting the goods shall not be longer than three months. This period starts from the end of the month when the purchase was made. In some countries, this period may be longer or shorter. As a rule, it is mentioned on the tax-free cheque form.
